DOCTORATE OF ART DEGREES
Ravenburn offers two types of terminal degrees: the Doctorate of Arts degree (DA) and the Doctorate of Philosophy degree (PhD).

The distinction we make between the two degrees is as follows. The DA degree takes the student all the way to the front lines of the current accepted information and voices on a topic and then pivots the student away from a profession of scholarly contribution and towards long-term contribution in the local lay community by means of some platform, project, or text the successful DA candidate has developed in their degree work.

In contrast to this, the PhD prepares one for continued scholarly contribution in some form. This is work that understands the current line of professional work on the topic at hand and moves it forward in some way. Consequently, the heartbeat of the PhD is continued, relevant contribution to the published thought in the student's future field.
