RAVENBURN HUMANITIES BIBLE COLLEGE APPLICATION
Entering as a College Graduate (BA or BS)

1) NAME:
GENDER:
AGE:
2) LAND ADDRESS (MAILING):
EMAIL ADDRESS:
PHONE:
Besides emailing, teachers and mentors often call, text, message via common apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, and have video meetings with their students. Will you be comfortable with this sort of communication. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
3) CONTACTS: List two adult contacts we can contact in case of emergency (if under 18, at least one parent must be listed as a contact). Please provide full names, phone numbers, and email addresses:
4) MEDICAL CONDITIONS:
Do you have any medical conditions that we should know about (allergies, etc.)? If so, please list and explain:
If you are meeting in person with a Ravenburn class or a mentor and undergo a medical emergency that renders you unconscious, do you give us permission to call 911?
5) FREE-DISCUSSION AGREEMENT. In submitting an application, the student and his or her parents agree to the right of the teacher to disagree with longstanding views and values of the student, and vice versa, without the disagreement affecting the assessment of the student's or teacher's capabilities. The class discussion space is to be one where different views are tolerated socially although intellectual fidelity must insist that contradictory views are not both true. Intellectual disagreement is to be carried out in a way that respects human presence and God’s image in that presence. All participants have the right to voice fundamental beliefs about God, people, and the world and to build on those beliefs. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
6) DRESS CODE: Both in class and at practicums, if there are actual land meetings, students are expected to dress appropriately and modestly. There are two basic guiding principles at play here. First, business casual is a good, flexible standard that is easy to understand. Given a professional place of work, what sort of outfits are considered acceptable in that workplace? You are allowed to wear outfits that fit this condition (this includes “up-styled” or “dress” denim). So be prepared to be flexible and to sometimes place functional fashion choices over comfort and/or personal choice. Second, modesty, cleanliness, and the right sort of signals associated with clothing choice are always to be sought after in the Kingdom of God. The guiding principle here is that if a clothing choice become an obstacle of effective ministry, then that particular choice is a poor one. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
7) TUITION AND FEES: You must have financial means to pay for the annual tuition up front, before each academic year begins. This includes the $200 annual accreditation fee, paid directly to the Open Latch Education Foundation. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
8) REFUND POLICY: Unless there is malfeasance on the part of Ravenburn or any of its mentors, no refund is granted after November 1 of any academic year. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
9) CORE ATTENDANCE POLICIES: If a class meets in person, all students must attend a minimum of 75% of the face-to-face meetings in order to be eligible to pass the class. If a class meets in person, tardiness past 1/2 of the allotted meeting time will be counted as an absence. It will be counted as a tardy before the half-hour mark accumulates. For land or online classes or coursework, no student can continue coursework if he or she has 2 recorded final grades of "Incomplete" or 3 recorded final grades of a D or lower. No student can continue coursework if he or she is in arrears for tuition from the previous term. No final class grade will be archived for a student who has not paid the tuition for that same coursework to Ravenburn or the annual accreditation fee to the Open Latch Education Foundation. Only registered and/or enrolled students can attend class, meetings where coursework is involved, or do Ravenburn work. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
10) COMPUTER AND INTERNET ACCESS: Students must have a laptop and a consistent internet connection in order to participate in the program. Furthermore, we will require the student to open accounts at various sites in order to use the material the site provides, and we also expect the student to be already fluent in digital operations like attaching files to emails, recording and uploading audio clips or video clips (see below), assessing audiobooks and videos from their local libraries, and so forth. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
11) SPEECH VIDEOS: The student may be required to record a short video of themselves giving a talk or presenting material. This recording can be a private recording, or it can be a recording of a live event the student is involved with. If such a recording is required, the student will be expected to upload the video to a video-hosting service on the internet, and if the video is not made available to the public at large on this service, then the faculty member leading that class must receive the password or a private link to watch the video. This requirement is set in place to ensure that students develop control and delivery skills associated with public speaking. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
12) PART-TIME WORK and VOLUNTEERING: Some programs require some part-time work. This is the case even if you are able to pay the tuition without working because we want to train you for bi-vocational ministry. If you are enrolled in such a program, you will be expected to hold a part-time paying job in the community at large (15-25 hrs/wk) for a minimum of two years. Furthermore, some programs require volunteer work at a church or Christian nonprofit. That is, you may be required to engage in an on-the-ground practicum with a mentor or supervisor at least 3 hrs/wk for as long as the practicum lasts. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
13) LIBRARY ACCESS: You must have access to the full resources available at at least one local public library. If you are doing graduate work, you will be required to access the digital resources of an academic library (usually a public college or university local to you). Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
14) OBJECTIONABLE ELEMENTS: The books, movies, YouTube videos, web sites, and songs we’ve included in our curriculum are carefully chosen. These texts may have profanity, violence, nudity, and scenes of sexual intimacy. To some extent, we will work with a student who feels uncomfortable with these elements, but we may also hold firm to our position that these elements will be encountered at some point in a person’s mature and independent interactions with society, and that it is much better to have initial guidance and a safe space to engage with and talk about these themes and elements. Type YES if you feel that you can understand our position (If NO, please explain):
15) READING DEGREES: You may be enrolling now in a reading graduate degree, or you may switch from a regular graduate program to a reading program of the same title later in your timeline. A reading Master of Arts degree does not have a graduate writing portfolio requirement. We consider it a terminal degree, which means that if once you earn a reading MA degree you would like to go on to earn a doctorate in the system accredited by the Open Latch Education Foundation, you will have to complete a 5-credit graduate-writing unit. This unit is a stand-alone unit and can be completed at any time. Type YES if you agree to this (If NO, please explain):
16) REFERENCES: Please list two references that we can contact. One of the references should be personal and the other professional. Do not list family members. Provide full names, emails, and phone numbers.
